Ram Softs India :: Tips :: Improve Google Page Ranking
At the moment, Google is by far the most popular internet search engine in the world. As of July, 2003, Yahoo is the second largest, having taken over a majority of remaining smaller engines (Inktomi.com, Altavista.com, fastsearch.com, alltheweb.com, etc.) through its acquisition of Overture. MSN is the 3rd player, and reported to be developing their own search engine that will produce independent results.
Google has a unique way of determining where to place sites in result listings, from top to bottom. They use a technology called PageRank:

Here are a few tips that can make sure your page can be found by a focused search on the Internet:
- Think carefully about key terms that your users will search on, and use them to construct your page.
- Documents are ranked higher if a search term is in the title. Users are more likely to click a link if the title matches what they're looking for.
- Choose terms for the title that match the concept of your document.
- Write your description carefully. After a title, users click on a link because the description draws them in.
- Place your key terms in the "keyword" meta tag. This helps, too, although not as much as the title. If possible, customize the keywords for each page on your site instead of using one broad set of keywords on every page. Point Learned :: SELECT YOUR MAGIG KEY WORDS
- Keep relevant text and links in HTML. Placing them in graphics or image maps means search engines can't search for the text and the crawler can't follow links to your site's other pages. Point Learned :: KEEP IT TEXT BASED
- Keep your documents reasonably short and make sure that the key concepts appear in the text. Keep words distinctive; For Example: abbreviating "opera singers" to "singers" can muddy up a search. Point Learned :: KEEP IT SMALL
- Be judicious with frames, or, to be safe, avoid them completely. A complex frame structure confuses many web crawlers. Point Learned :: KEEP IT SIMPLE
- Get your site into Open Directory: If you get your site into open directory project you will improve your ranking considirebly in google search engine but getting into opd should not be difficult if you have good website and submission is done properly. try and include all your important keywords in title and description when you submit to opd. Once you get into opd you will automatically get into google search engine directory. Hence getting into opd is the most important step in improving your ranking in google search engine. Point Learned :: MAKE SURE YOUR SITE IS LISTED IN DMOZ
- NEVER Submit To Google Search Engine DIRECTLY - Reason : You will be given Slight Submission Penalty And This Penalty Is Removed Only When Google Crawler Finds Your Site On Its Own. The secret to getting listed by Google Search Engine is simple: Get Another Page To Link To You, then submit the other page to Google. Point Learned :: KEEP IT LINKED WITH OTHER WEBSITES
- Keywords Density: You should spread the keywords throught out the page as some times google search engine take into account text from middle of the page or bottom of the page. Also DONOT FLOOD THE KEYWORD. GOOGLE Is smart and dump your site.
- Hyperlink Your Keywords : Always have your keywords preferably in hyperlinks and the text just after the hyperlinks which help you to improve your rankings at google search engine.
- Update your content as frequently as possible. : Search engine likes content oriented pages. If you site is keep on updated with new contents, everytime the search engine spiders, then your site will peak the ranking..Point Learned :: A page a day will send Google your way
- HAVE A SITEMAP PAGE : SITEMAP is very much a key factor for your website. It should contain the links to all your website. This helps the spider a lot. Effect. The easy the spider spiders your site, it will help you to improve your page ranking.
- DOORWAY" PAGES: Unfortunately, what is appealing to the search engines is not always the best way to display the content for your Web site. Therefore, strongly consider creating a secondary "doorway" page for each product or service you offer designed for the search engines. Describe the product/service clearly but make sure you make generous use of keywords in your sentences. You can then link to another page for more information or to your order form. The reason this works, and generally works better than most methods, is that engines often take the keywords being searched and divide it by the total number of words in the page or in the first portion of the page. Therefore, you may only have the keyword on the page a couple of times, but if there's not a lot of other words, those keywords appear to be much more "significant" to the page's overall content. You don't have to have links to these secondary pages from your home page. They simply act as a "doorway" to the appropriate page on your Web site. As a result, other visitors do not see them. If you don't link to them though from your home page or a close secondary page, you'll need to submit each of these pages manually for the search engines to find and index them. Be sure to review the warnings in Submitting Your Pages before doing this though.
